There's never a dull moment when living through a pandemic. During December covid numbers started improving and luckily, we were able to see family over the holidays. Then January and the omicron variant hit. Numbers were higher than ever. My work was hit hard, we closed briefly. Many kids got Covid and 14 of our 17 teachers have now been infected. I have somehow survived thus far. We switched to everyone wearing KN95 masks and somehow made it through January and February very short staffed.
Numbers are improving as the omicron wave has peaked. They just released the mask mandate for outdoors in Washington. And are planning to release masks indoor on March 21st. I have mixed emotions about this decision. I would love for the kids and I to stop wearing masks all day at school and work, however it feels like we will likely then be needing to test for covid weekly as we will be getting sick for sure. I'm curious to see if safety protocols for school will change. As of now public schools require a lab test (home tests are not allowed) to return to school if they show any signs of being sick. My kids refuse to have these painful lab PCR tests done anymore, and I don' blame them.
I'm looking forward to the spring for some sun and more outdoor time.
