Unfortunately Colbie had her first experience with being sick. I was hoping to start off with the sniffles or perhaps a minor soar throat, but instead she got the flu. Is it even flu season yet....?
Colbie starting throwing up around 5:30pm on Tuesday and for a couple of hours she threw up every 30 minutes. The first time it happened we thought maybe I had fed her too many sweet potatoes....it was day 3 of introducing solids (other than rice cereal). As the trowing up continued I thought probably not. Jon thought I was being crazy when I called the nurse hot line, but I was glad I did. The nurse was super nice and very helpful. It was definitely the flu and we had to just wait for the throwing up to stop then feed her 2 tablespoons of milk at a time until she kept it down. Luckily only once she immediately threw up the 2 tablespoons. So around 11pm I had successfully gotten 1oz of milk in her before she went to bed. The poor girl was soooo tired she nearly fell asleep in the middle of throwing up, poor baby. We felt so terrible for her, it is no fun to see your baby unhappy, and she seemed so confused. She was up at 2am and 4am crying but went back to bed fairly easily, I thought the night would be much worse. I of course did not sleep as I was so worried she would trow up in her sleep. The next day she wouldn't let me put her down, but by day 3 she was back to herself and I was happy to take a long hot shower!
I would also like to note that all three of us have multiple pj's that are now stained orange, darn sweet potatoes!
Just three days after posting this we had another episode of vomiting. We figured that it couldn't be the flu after all and were encouraged to take her to Urgent Care early the next morning (it was Friday evening) by the nurse on the phone. So after a not so quick visit to Urgent Care they determined Colbie was constipated. Apparently rice cereal can cause constipation. She was throwing up because food couldn't make it out the other end, poor baby! So we have taken a break from solids, have had no more vomiting, and she is no longer constipated! We have her 6 month appointment next week and our curious to check in with her pediatrician about restarting solids and avoiding this problem in the future!
=( Poor baby Colbie! I need a Colbie play date!
